Face coverings now required in church

Face coverings are once again a legal requirement if you are attending a church service, unless you are exempt from wearing such a covering.

Laws have been changed by the government to deal with rising cases of the Omicron variant of Covid-19 and the Church of England has also updated its guidance to churches.

All through the pandemic we have been working together to make sure that St John’s is safe for people who worship with us and visit church, to make sure they feel confident that we are doing everything we can to reduce the spread of coronavirus.

Please bring a face covering with you to church and wear it throughout the service, including when you are singing. We also have hand sanitiser available for you to sanitise your hands when you enter and leave the building.

Face coverings can be removed by whoever is leading the service, as well as members of the choir when they are singing and members of the congregation when they are reading aloud from the bible as part of a church service. During weddings the bride and groom are also exempt from wearing face coverings.

While we know that some people are exempt from wearing face coverings, including for medical reasons, we would ask anyone who is able to wear a face covering to do so to help protect people around them from spreading the virus.

We would also remind you not to come to church if you have any potential symptoms of coronavirus. Recorded services of Online Worship are available for you to watch from home each week.
