Lorna Sykes & Janet Whitaker - Churchwardens

Churchwardens

As churchwardens Lorna Sykes and Janet Whitaker represent all members of the congregation at St. John's. They are also responsible for looking after our church buildings and their contents. Their role is particularly important while we are waiting for our new vicar to arrive following the retirement of Rev Paul Tudge.

Janet Whitaker

Janet has been a churchwarden for the past six years. She retired from work in 2018 and looking after things at the church now takes up a lot of her time.

When she is not busy with things at St. John's she enjoys getting out and about with her husband, who has also retired, and looking after their two grandsons a couple of days a week. Their eldest daughter is also a member of the PCC and looks after the church social media accounts while their youngest daughter often helps keep the church clean and tidy.

Lorna Sykes

Lorna has been a churchwarden for most of the last eight years.

She is now retired after 30 years working in the NHS. Since then she has taken the lead running the Sunflower Memory Cafe which supports people living with dementia as well as starting a Bereavement Support Group with our reader Shirley Walker. She also still supports the NHS byb volunteering at St. James' Hospital one day a week.

Lorna has two grown up children. One works withing the NHS in radiology and the other is a driver in Europe.

In her spare time you will often find her cheering on Leeds United at Elland Road where she has been a season ticket holder for many years.
