Visiting for the first time

Church seats

A warm welcome...

It may feel daunting to visit a church for the first time, particularly if you are on your own rather than with a friend or family. Please be assured that you will get a warm welcome at St John's.

There are no rules about what to wear, or where to sit. Please come as you are and find a seat where you feel most comfortable.

Children are welcome too...

Our 10:30am Sunday Service has a children’s group. The content is appropriate for 5-11 year olds but younger children are very welcome to join in with the group. If you would prefer, your child can stay with you during the service. They are more than welcome. There is also a play area at the back of the church which they are welcome to use during the service.

Our young people in church meet together during the service once a month and occasionally lead an element of the service the following week. Read more about our safeguarding arrangements.

What to do at Communion services...

At Communion Services you are welcome to come for a blessing even if you do not want to receive the bread or wine. You won’t be the only one remaining in your seat if you choose not to do either.

Donations are not expected...

Visitors are not expected to make any kind of donation. A collection plate will usually be passed around, but please do not feel embarrassed to simply pass it along to the next person. Many other people will do this too because they choose to give by standing order.

Join us for a drink afterwards...

After the 10.30am service, we serve tea, coffee and biscuits in the Church Hall and you are warmly invited to stay and chat. Do look out for our welcome card in the pews and at the back of church which you can take away. This has more information about our services and groups. It also includes a tear-off section for you to leave us your contact details so we can stay in touch if you wish.
